IAAW advocates on behalf of Aboriginal Women and is currently involved in many activities for the benefit of Alberta Aboriginal Women including:
- Advocating with the Human Rights Commissions as they pertain to Aboriginal People, and in particular, to Aboriginal Women.
- Honouring and recognizing Aboriginal Women for their accomplishments at the annual Esquao Awards.
- Decade of Difference 2005-2015 calls upon all levels of government to make a concerted effort to allocate resources required to address the quandary of Aboriginal Women and enable them to participate fully in Canadian society without fear or prejudice.
- “Can You Hear Us?” – A national project aimed at increasing the involvement of Aboriginal Women in the decision-making process at the community, regional and national level.
- Every two years presenting the Social Justice Award to an individual who is dedicated in addressing systemic issues in social justice. Previous recipients include: author Warren Goulding and Edmonton Police Service Detective Freeman Taylor.
- IAAW published the book Our Women in Uniform, chronicling the role Aboriginal Women served in the Canadian Armed Forces during and after the Second World War.
